Sports News] Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali is facing charges from
the Football Association (FA) for 50 new illegal match betting offenses
committed during this season. Tonali had previously been banned by the Italian
Football Association for a period of 10 months on October 26, 2023, after
admitting to betting on games while playing for AC Milan. It was reported that
Tonali cooperated with the Italian Football Association’s investigation and
reached a plea deal. However, the FA has now accused Tonali of engaging in illegal
betting on matches two weeks prior to the Italian Football Association’s
hearing. It’s important to note that the FA’s charges against Tonali are
separate from the sanctions imposed by the Italian Football Federation, and
they specifically pertain to his actions as a participant in English football
while registered with Newcastle. The ban imposed by the Italian Football
Federation applies globally and will expire on August 27. If the latest
allegations are proven or admitted, the FA’s independent regulatory committee
will have to determine whether to extend the ban or allow any new bans to run
concurrently. These recent developments represent a significant setback for
Tonali and another blow to Newcastle.
