[Saba Sports News] In the semifinals of the 2023 Badminton World Tour Finals, Baek Ha Na/LEE So-Hee from South Korea endured
a grueling 121-minute marathon match. Baek Ha Na pushed herself to make up for
Lee So Hee’s defensive gaps, and she even experienced cramping. Neither of them
was in their optimal physical condition. Surprisingly, the 121-minute match
does not hold the record for the longest duration in an international badminton
competition. The longest official record was set during the 2016 Asian
Championships in Wuhan, lasting 161 minutes. The match featured the Japanese
pair led by Naoko Fukuman and the Indonesian pair led by Nitya Krishinda
Maheswari. After three hard-fought games, the Japanese pair emerged as the
victors. With a duration of 161 minutes, it is comparable to the length of an
international blockbuster movie.
