[Saba Sports News] Over the first four days of The 2023 BWF World Tour
Finals, several interesting records have been set. One notable record was
achieved in the women’s doubles match on the third day. The pairs involved were
the pairing of Baek Ha Na/Lee So-hee from South Korea and the combination of
Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida from Japan. They engaged in an incredible super
rally lasting 147 shots, which took a total of 2 minutes and 48 seconds.
Ultimately, due to exhaustion, the Korean duo made an error in returning the
shuttlecock, and the Japanese combination capitalized on it to score. Both
players collapsed on the ground in fatigue after the super rally. However, this
is not the record for the most badminton shots in a single round in an
international competition. The world record in this regard was set during the
women’s doubles match at the 2015 Denmark Open. Poon Lok Yan representing Hong
Kong faced Naoko Fukuman representing Japan, and they battled through an
astonishing 255 shots in one round, lasting a total of 165 seconds. It’s safe
to say that fans who witnessed that round might have been tempted to fall
asleep.
