[Saba Sports News] Are you interested in becoming
an F1 strategy engineer? The role of guiding drivers to achieve the shortest
possible race times may seem simple on the surface, but in reality, it is quite
complex. The Aston Martin Saudi Aramco F1 Team is currently seeking strategy
engineers from around the world. In a job advertisement, Team Director Tom
McCullough sheds light on what it takes to be a race strategist and how to
pursue this career path. According to Tom, being a strategist entails a dynamic
and fast-paced role that demands adaptability. Strategists are primarily
responsible for race strategy preparation, implementation, and analysis. They
must carefully consider the input from tire engineers, race engineers, drivers,
and senior management, simulate multiple scenarios, and formulate the optimal
race plan. A good strategy engineer should possess a mathematical background, a
strong engineering degree, the ability to comprehend and independently analyze
large volumes of data, and the capacity to think logically under high-pressure
situations. Additionally, strategy engineers should excel in software
development, possess knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java,
MATLAB, and C#, and be familiar with coding. Effective communication skills,
including confidence and efficiency, are also essential for this role.
