[Saba Sports News] In Dundee, Scotland, there is a 79-year-old retired
math teacher named Bill Garland who has been running a badminton club called
Roseangle since the 1960s. Every Thursday evening, the Roseangle Badminton Club
organizes matches, which have become a major activity in the city’s amateur
sports community. For Bill, his love for badminton surpasses even drinking
beer. It is reported that Bill fell in love with badminton when he was 13 years
old and went on to serve as the chairman of the Dundee Area Badminton
Association (DABA) for 11 years. When asked why he loves badminton, Bill
jokingly said that tennis rackets are too heavy and it’s difficult to master
the skills, so he chose a sport similar to tennis. Bill firmly believes that
age should not be a barrier to learning badminton. He encourages more elderly
people to take up and fall in love with badminton, believing that it can become
a medium for social interaction. From my perspective, participating in
badminton matches offers the opportunity to socialize while exercising, making
it a win-win situation.
