[Saba Sports News] The 2024 season of Formula 1
showcases a notable consistency in car designs. As F1 enters its third year of
the ground effects era, fans have observed striking similarities in the new car
designs across multiple teams, primarily in four key areas. Firstly, the side
compartment is receiving increased attention, with teams recognizing its
crucial role in the interaction between the floor’s edge and the ground effect
floor, which is essential for achieving aerodynamic efficiency. Secondly, teams
are focusing on modifying the cooling air inlets of the side compartment to
create flatter and wider openings, aiming to enhance airflow and increase the
volume of air passing through this area. Thirdly, the monocoque structure
profile has become a popular design choice, with teams opting for a V-shaped
profile similar to Red Bull’s, as it helps to reduce the overall weight of the
car. Additionally, teams are adjusting the cockpit position, moving it
significantly rearward to address inherent balance issues. Shifting the cockpit
position backward helps to prevent oversteering and excessive sensitivity at
the front of the car. Lastly, most teams are adopting a front-pull-rear suspension
layout, aligning with the aerodynamic philosophy of the ground-effect floor. It
is worth noting that innovative and successful designs are often emulated by
other teams, leading to a convergence of car designs in the future. This trend
towards consistency is anticipated to continue within the realm of racing cars.
