Sports News] A Malaysian badminton player realized he had the wrong passport
and was left with no choice but to withdraw from the match. The 2024 India Open
has commenced, but Teo Ee Yi, the Malaysian player who initially registered to
compete, announced his withdrawal due to a rather astounding reason. Prior to
the game, he mistakenly used an expired passport and failed to obtain a visa,
resulting in his forced withdrawal from the match alongside Ong Yew Sin.
Despite attempting to secure an emergency visa with the assistance of the
Malaysian Embassy, he was unable to remain in India and had to return to
Malaysia. Teo Ee Yi later expressed his regret in a social media post, stating,
“I’m sorry. I truly made a foolish mistake. Upon arriving in India, I
discovered that the e-visa I had applied for was linked to my old
passport.” Born in 1993, Teo currently holds the sixth position in the
world rankings for men’s doubles. He partnered with Ong Yew Sin in 2016, and
together they have clinched numerous men’s doubles championships, including the
most recent one at the 2020 Thailand Badminton Masters.
