[Saba Sports News] The Indonesian Election Commission officially announced Prabowo Subianto as the elected eighth president of Indonesia, who will officially take office on October 20, 2024, for a term of five years. This Tuesday, former badminton men’s singles world number one Taufik Hidayat had a sports-related discussion with elected president Prabowo on Kertanegara Road in Jakarta. During the meeting, Taufik was invited to become a cabinet member as deputy minister of youth and sports in Indonesia for the next five years. However, Taufik did not respond directly to this invitation, stating that he needs time to consider it. Records show that Taufik is the first male singles player in badminton history to achieve a Grand Slam title by winning Olympic Games, Asian Games, World Championships, and Thomas Cup titles. He retired in 2013 and now runs his own gym while serving as an advisor for the Indonesian national badminton team. At this year’s Paris Olympics in August, Taufik accompanied the team to Paris as a technical advisor for Indonesian players.
