[Saba Sports News] On the occasion of the Chinese
New Year, former Malaysian badminton star Tan Boon Heong shared an update on
his social media platforms. He posted video clips and photos of himself
returning to his hometown to celebrate the New Year and pay his respects to his
family. One of the photos showed a bicycle that he used to ride as a child.
Heong expressed his emotions and wrote about how his mother used to ride that
bicycle to carry him when he was young, even in the rain. He expressed
gratitude for his mother’s sacrifices and encouraged others to remember the
importance of going home and spending time with their elders during the New Year.
Tan Boon Heong, who hails from Alor Setar, Kedah, achieved notable success in
badminton. He won the men’s doubles gold medal with Ku Kin Kit at the 2006 Doha
Asian Games. The duo, known as the “diamond pair,” also won bronze
and silver medals at the 2009 and 2010 World Championships, respectively.
Following their retirement, they transitioned into careers as badminton
commentators and later became popular online anchors, particularly in China.
The message shared by Heong highlights the significance of family and the
importance of cherishing time spent with loved ones, especially during festive
occasions like the Chinese New Year.
