[Saba Sports News] Star cricketer Virat Kohli joined his India teammates at their New York hotel after a 16-hour flight on Friday, May 31. However, his participation in the warm-up match against Bangladesh on Saturday, June 1, remains uncertain.
The BCCI granted Kohli a short break after Royal Challengers Bangalore’s elimination from the IPL 2024 playoffs. While the rest of the squad traveled to the US in batches, Kohli stayed in India briefly before heading to New York. He missed India’s optional practice session and is resting at the hotel.
A senior BCCI source reveals, “Virat Kohli has checked in at the team hotel, and after a long flight, he will be taking a rest.”
During the optional training session on Friday morning, players like Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, and Mohammed Siraj trained under the support staff’s guidance. Kohli has missed three training sessions but is in excellent form, having been the highest run-scorer in IPL 2024 with 741 runs from 15 matches at an average of 61.75. Even if he skips the warm-up match, he will have three quality training sessions before India’s tournament opener against Ireland on June 5.
India has played only three T20Is this year, winning a home series against Afghanistan in January. In the previous T20 World Cup in 2022, India lost to England in the semifinals. Last year, they were defeated by Australia in both the ODI World Cup and World Test Championship finals. India is eager to win the T20 World Cup starting on June 2.
