[Saba Sports News] Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic left Minnesota Timberwolves stars Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert astonished on Friday night, prompting playful calls for an “investigation.”
With just over six minutes left in the fourth quarter, and the Timberwolves coming out of a timeout, Jokic preemptively informed his teammates of the upcoming play.
While it’s not unusual for players to catch wind of a play if they hear it, Jokic hadn’t heard anything—because no one vocalized it on the court.
Gobert, stunned, watched as Jokic positioned the Nuggets perfectly for the play. Moments later, Aaron Gordon intercepted a Jaden McDaniels pass.
Despite the Timberwolves rallying for a 119-116 win, Edwards and Gobert couldn’t help but express their amazement at Jokic’s extraordinary basketball IQ.
“That was crazy. We have a spy on the bench,” Gobert said via SneakerReporter. “Jokic knew the play even though we didn’t say anything. He knew it better than us.”
“Nobody said anything,” Edwards shouted from a nearby locker, apologizing for interrupting but clearly impressed.
“It was six minutes left in the fourth,” Edwards continued. “Right after the timeout, me and Rudy lined up, and this guy just called out the play. How did he know? That’s cheating, bro.”
Gobert, shaking his head, added, “Yeah, we’ve got to launch an investigation.”
This isn’t the first time Jokic has demonstrated this ability. During a 2022 playoff game against the Golden State Warriors, he anticipated an inbound lob and set up a Nuggets steal.
Jokic: a true basketball genius.
