[Saba Sports News] In a match against South Africa Women, Suzie Bates of New Zealand Women made history by surpassing Virat Kohli‘s T20 International run record. She scored 45 runs off 38 balls, including one six and five boundaries, bringing her total to 4021 runs in 149 T20Is, with an average of 29.78. Despite her achievement, New Zealand lost to South Africa Women by 11 runs.
The White Ferns celebrated Bates’ milestone on social media, declaring her the leading T20I run-scorer in the world, overtaking Kohli’s 4008 runs. Australia’s Meg Lanning ranks second with 3405 runs in 132 matches, while India Women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur is the top scorer for India, amassing 3154 runs in 155 games.
As Suzie Bates basks in her historic achievement, cricket fans are keeping a close watch on Virat Kohli’s journey in the 2023 World Cup. Kohli is closing in on two significant records: he needs three centuries to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries, and he’s just 35 runs away from overtaking Mahela Jayawardena for the fourth-highest runs in international cricket.
Kohli has scored 156 runs in three World Cup matches, including match-winning half-centuries against Australia and Afghanistan. However, he still trails the top three all-time greats: Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, and Tendulkar, with a current total of 25,923 runs in 510 matches.
Kohli is set to play against Bangladesh in the upcoming 2023 World Cup match at the MCA Stadium in Pune on October 19.
