[Saba Sports News] In a concerning update on Suryakumar Yadav’s recovery process, a PTI report has quoted a source, sharing that the star Mumbai Indians (MI) batter could miss the side’s first two matches in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
For the uninitiated, Suryakumar is currently recuperating at the NCA. He underwent a sports hernia surgery in Germany earlier this year which ruled him him out of the Afghanistan T20I series. He last played a competitive match in December.
As Suryakumar continues to work hard to regain his fitness at the NCA, he is expected to mark his return in IPL 2024. However, as reported by PTI, he is unlikely to feature in the first two matches of the season for his franchise scheduled against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 24 and March 27 respectively.
“Suryakumar Yadav’s rehabilitation is on track and he will certainly ‘Return to Play’ in the IPL itself. However it is still not clear whether the NCA’s Sports Science and Medical Team will give clearance to play in the first two away games against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad (March 27),” a BCCI source said as quoted to PTI.
“There are still 12 days to go before MI play their first game but it could be a race against time to get fit by the first match itself,” he added.
In his last international apperance, Suryakumar had scored a century against South Africa. He is a vital cog in the MI line-up and Hardik Pandya and Co. would hope that he is available for them right from the first game.
