[Saba Sports News] During a recent NBA Summer League appearance, Suns owner Mat Ishbia reaffirmed his commitment to Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. Speaking to reporters on an ESPN broadcast, Ishbia emphasized his dedication to the team’s current core.
“We love Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. We didn’t put our team together for a one-year try. We believe in these guys as some of the most dynamic scorers in the NBA. Now, we need to build a team around them. The first year didn’t go as planned, but we’re ready to compete again in the second year. I love these players and our additions like Jusuf Nurkic, Grayson Allen, and Royce O’Neale. We have to win in the playoffs, and we welcome the high expectations,” said Ishbia.
After purchasing the team from Robert Sarver a few years ago, Ishbia immediately made significant moves, acquiring Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal to form a formidable “big three” alongside Devin Booker. The Suns aimed for success, carrying the NBA’s highest payroll next season at over $400 million, with winning as their primary goal.
Despite early playoff exits for two consecutive years, Ishbia remains confident in the team’s potential. Critics suggested increasing depth over star power, but the Suns are set to return with a similar roster, including key role players like Jusuf Nurkic, Grayson Allen, and Bol Bol.
Ignoring calls to split up their core, Ishbia continues to believe in their potential under championship coach Mike Budenholzer. The Suns, boasting star power and depth, are poised to be significant contenders in the West for the foreseeable future.
