An affective Spencer After leading Brisbane Heat to an
unexpected 54-run victory over Sydney Sixers in the BBL final, Johnson declared
that the team had “changed my life”.
Quick with the left arm With his 4 for 26, the
greatest numbers ever in a BBL final, Johnson was named Player of the Match as
the Heat won their second title after an 11-year hiatus.
It was delicious revenge for the Heat, who lost
heartbreakingly to the Perth Scorchers in the thrilling final of the previous
season after failing to hold 175 against them.
However, Johnson, two of the Heat’s eight players from
that heartbreaking loss in Perth led from the front with the wickets of Josh
Philippe and Jack Edwards.
Just as the celebrations for Heat began, he wrapped up
his outstanding performance by snaring Hayden Kerr.
With his left-arm angle and towering height making him
nearly unplayable at times, Johnson shot to fame during the previous season’s
BBL with his 145kph thunderbolts. This is just another one of his incredible
performances.
“I owe Brisbane Heat everything. Coming up here
last year, I didn’t know where my career was going and now I’ve just won a Big
Bash with 11 of my closest mates,” a visibly emotional Johnson told Fox
Sports.
“Twelve months ago, I wasn’t in this position.
And I think the Brisbane Heat have changed my life. So it’s pretty
special.”
