Sports News] According to reports from Spanish media, if Barcelona fails to
qualify for the Spanish Super Cup next season, the Spanish Football Federation
will incur a loss of 5 million euros. The situation arises from Barcelona’s
elimination from the Copa del Rey after losing to Athletic Bilbao. As per the agreement
signed between the Spanish Football Federation and the Saudi authorities, if
Barcelona does not finish in the top two positions in the league, the Spanish
Football Federation will face a financial setback of 5 million euros. This
clause is part of the Super Cup agreement. The Spanish Football Federation
entered into an agreement with Saudi Arabia in 2022, which designated Saudi
Arabia as the host country for the Spanish Super Cup until 2029. Under this
agreement, the Spanish Football Federation receives 40 million euros annually.
The four participating teams in the Super Cup are the champions and runners-up
of La Liga from the previous season, as well as the winners and runners-up of
the Copa del Rey. However, if Barcelona fails to qualify for the Spanish Super
Cup in the upcoming season, the Spanish Football Federation’s annual income
will be reduced to 35 million euros. This development adds an interesting
dynamic to the second half of the La Liga season.
