[Saba Sports News] South Africa has long desired to host the F1 Grand Prix again. According to the South African Citizen newspaper, if Sports, Arts, and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie succeeds, South Africa will host the F1 Grand Prix in the future. Despite the enormous costs, especially for a country like South Africa, McKenzie vowed to do everything possible to fulfill the dream of F1 fans. McKenzie revealed on X that he has arranged a meeting in Monaco with relevant parties at the end of August. If he fails to bring the world’s largest sports tourism event to South Africa, his term will be a failure. Some fans noted that seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton resides in Monaco. In previous interviews, Hamilton has repeatedly expressed his desire to race in South Africa, so he might be willing to fund the event. In response, South Africa’s first and only F1 champion, Jody Scheckter, stated that back in 2023, the South African city of Kyalami was expected to host the F1 championship, but negotiations broke down due to funding issues. Once the funding problem is resolved, F1 can return to the African continent.
