[Saba Sports News] Shamar Joseph, the West Indies sensation famous for his key role in defeating Australia in the second Test, is set to debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 2024 season, taking over from England’s Mark Wood.
The IPL confirmed this roster update on their website, stating, “Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have appointed Shamar Joseph as the replacement for pacer Mark Wood for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Joseph, who was instrumental in the West Indies’ Test victory at the Gabba by claiming 7 wickets in the second innings, is joining LSG for INR 3 Crore. This marks his inaugural IPL venture.”
Joseph, aged 24, made a memorable entrance into international cricket during the series against Australia, particularly shining in the second Test where his 7-wicket haul led to a historic West Indies win at the Gabba, a fortress for the Australian team.
His journey to this point is noteworthy, transitioning from a security guard to an international cricket sensation, overcoming a toe injury that previously forced him out of the International League T20 (ILT20). Despite getting injured from a Mitchell Starc yorker in the Test’s final day, Joseph made a triumphant return to the pitch, securing the West Indies’ victory by bowling out Australia for 207.
This performance not only highlighted his skill and determination but also set the stage for his upcoming stint in the IPL with the Lucknow Super Giants.
