[Saba Sports News] Over two decades since his father faced off against the Vancouver Grizzlies, Scotty Pippen Jr. has joined the ranks of the Memphis Grizzlies. As reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Scotty Jr. has secured a free-agent deal with the Grizzlies. The 23-year-old guard will be on a two-year, two-way contract, allowing him to play for both the Grizzlies and their G League affiliate, the Memphis Hustle.
Scotty Jr., son of the legendary Scottie Pippen, made a name for himself at Vanderbilt University with two First Team All-SEC selections. Despite going undrafted in 2022, he joined the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 2.3 points in six games. However, he was released by the Lakers before the 2023-24 season and subsequently played for their G League team, the South Bay Lakers.
While Scotty Jr. may not have the same high expectations as initially thought, the injury-plagued Grizzlies are in dire need of reinforcements. Key players like Ja Morant, Steven Adams, Brandon Clarke, Desmond Bane, Derrick Rose, and Marcus Smart are sidelined with injuries. While Scotty Jr. isn’t expected to be a miracle worker for the Grizzlies, his arrival comes at a time when immediate playing opportunities are available, offering a less challenging environment than his stint with the Lakers.
