[Saba Sports News] Shortly after Shoaib Malik, former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, revealed his second marriage to actress Sana Javed, a family member of his first wife, Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, disclosed that Sania had initiated a unilateral divorce from Malik. According to a family source speaking to PTI, Sania exercised her right to ‘khula’, a provision in Islamic law allowing a woman to divorce her husband. Initially, PTI attributed this statement to Sania’s father, Imran Mirza.
Malik announced his marriage to Javed on social media, sharing a photo with the caption, “And We created you in pairs.” The pair have collaborated on various shows and TV commercials in Pakistan.
This development follows intense speculation about the couple’s relationship, as they were rarely seen together in recent years. Despite rumors of their split, there was no formal acknowledgment. Malik had evaded questions about Sania in Pakistani TV shows last year and recently unfollowed her on Instagram.
Shoaib and Sania married in Hyderabad, Sania’s hometown, in April 2010 and lived in Dubai. They have a son, Ihzaan Mirza Malik, born in October 2018, who currently resides with Sania.
This is also the second marriage for Sana Javed, who previously wed singer Umair Jaiswal in 2020. She is known for her roles in popular Pakistani drama series and films. Reports of Javed’s divorce emerged two months ago.
Sania Mirza, one of India’s most accomplished tennis players, retired last year. Her 20-year career included 43 WTA doubles titles and a singles trophy, marking her as a pioneering figure in women’s sports.
Meanwhile, Malik, who has not yet retired from T20Is, boasts a notable cricket career with Pakistan, playing 35 Tests, 285 ODIs, and 124 T20Is. He last represented Pakistan in a T20I against Bangladesh in 2021.
