[Saba Sports News] As Team India readies for the ICC World Cup 2023 clash against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium on November 2nd, Captain Rohit Sharma isn’t pleased with the city’s smoggy reception. He recently shared an aerial photo on Instagram, depicting Mumbai veiled in smog and captioned it ‘Mumbai. Yeh kya ho gaya (Mumbai, what has happened?)’
Mumbai’s air quality has been a cause for concern, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 161 reported by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on Tuesday, categorizing it as ‘moderate.’ The most severe pollution was noted in areas like Bandra Kurla Complex (AQI 257), Sion (AQI 218), Kherwadi in Bandra East (AQI 198), and Navy Nagar in Colaba (AQI 189).
Rohit isn’t the only one critical of the air quality; England’s Joe Root also expressed dissatisfaction during a recent match at Wankhede Stadium, likening it to ‘eating air.’ He described the unique challenge of playing in such conditions, emphasizing its impact on players like South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen, who struggled to resume fielding after an impressive innings.
With three more matches scheduled in Mumbai, including a semi-final, concerns about air quality remain prominent.
