[Saba Sports News] India, currently the world’s top-ranked Test team, is eager to rebound in the second Test of their two-match series against South Africa, set to take place on Wednesday, January 02, at Newlands in Cape Town. The team, led by Rohit Sharma, faced a substantial defeat by an innings and 32 runs in the first Test at Centurion, struggling with scores of 245 and 131 in their two innings.
The upcoming Test is critical for India to avoid another series loss in South Africa. Sharma, ahead of the match, indicated a likelihood of retaining the same bowling lineup, despite mixed performances from Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur in the first Test. He emphasized the importance of showing faith in the players, particularly noting Krishna’s nervousness in his Test debut, where he posted figures of 1/93 in 20 overs. Sharma expressed confidence in Krishna’s abilities and stressed the need for trust and support to help him succeed at the Test level.
Krishna has been actively involved in the practice sessions in Centurion, working closely with bowling coach Paras Mhambrey on his line and length. He was also seen bowling with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj in Cape Town on January 1.
Sharma mentioned that the playing XI for the next Test had not been finalized yet, but confirmed that all team members are available for selection without any injury concerns. The team management and coaching staff are still in discussions about the best strategy for the upcoming game.
India’s record in Cape Town is a challenging one, with no Test wins in six attempts at the venue, including four losses and two draws. The team is focused on securing a victory in this crucial match to potentially tie their second Test series in South Africa, having faced defeats in seven out of eight previous series in the country.
