[Saba Sports News] BCCI president Roger Binny attributed England’s series deficit to Ben Stokes’ assertive captaincy approach, pointing out that their aggressive strategy, especially against India’s spinners in tough batting conditions, led to their downfall.
With England trailing 1-3 in the series and facing a substantial 255-run first-innings deficit in the final Test at Dharamsala, Binny criticized the English batters’ inability to adapt their aggressive play.
“Well, the captaincy of Ben Stokes so he has been more aggressive, and I think that has been the (reason for their) downfall in the few Test matches,” Binny stated. “Being so aggressive and trying to take on the Indian spinners in difficult times (situations) rather than hanging around and trying to make a big score.”
He contrasted this with Rohit Sharma’s strategic acumen, praising the Indian captain’s tactical finesse and effective use of his bowlers to dismantle England.
“Rohit Sharma again has been very tactful. You know he knew exactly what he wanted to do and he got his bowlers to do that,” he added.
Despite England’s initial comeback in Hyderabad, Binny noted their failure to alter their aggressive approach, while lauding Rohit’s patience and strategic planning post-Hyderabad, which significantly contributed to India’s successive victories.
