[Saba Sports News] The highly anticipated 2023
Badminton World Tour Finals are set to commence in mid-December. Recently, the
Malaysian Badminton Federation held a press conference where Rexy, the coaching
director, expressed his hopes for the Malaysian players to achieve excellent
results in the competition. He emphasized the goal of winning the championship
and securing qualifications for the Paris Olympics. As an incentive, Rexy
promised to treat the players to their favorite fruit, durian, in unlimited
quantities if they emerge as champions. Regarding the significantly increased
prize money of $2.5 million for the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals, Rexy admitted
his envy and jokingly remarked that he was “born in the wrong era.”
He even expressed a desire to play if given the opportunity. Rexy, a renowned
former Indonesian badminton player with over 30 medals to his name,
transitioned into coaching after retiring. He previously coached the Thai
badminton national team and officially assumed the coaching director role for
the Malaysian badminton national team in 2021.
