[Saba Sports News] In recent days, when Jibril Rajoub, the President of the Palestinian Football Association, was returning home from Jordan with a layover, he was briefly detained by the Israeli army. This incident has caused a stir in the international community. Although he was released, his passport remains confiscated. Upon learning of the news, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) immediately issued a statement on its official website strongly condemning the incident. The AFC stated that regardless of the political environment, international organizations and governments must uphold individuals’ basic rights. It is evident that the personal rights of Rajoub have been violated. The AFC also expressed its full support for the right of the Palestinian national team to participate in matches without external pressure. In my opinion, this is undoubtedly a major blow to the Palestinian football community. It not only affects the normal operation of the Palestinian Football Association but may also have a negative impact on the team’s preparation and morale. For the Palestinian national team’s preparations for the World Cup qualifiers, this unexpected incident may increase the psychological pressure on the players and distract their attention and energy.
