[Saba Sports News] New Zealand dynamic batting all-rounder, Rachin Ravindra, has been making waves in the cricketing world, showcasing his prowess with the bat at the age of 23. His father recently dispelled rumors surrounding the origins of his son’s name, asserting that it was not a pre-planned decision.
The Indian-origin Rachin has proven to be absolute 24-carat gold for his team. His batting ability in the ongoing World Cup has already accumulated 565 runs in nine innings with an average of 70.62, including thre hundreds and two fifties.
Rachin had revealed that his parents named named him after legendary India batters Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. However, his father has now put it on record that the name of his son was not chosen after these former Indian cricketers.
“When Rachin was born, my wife suggested the name, and we didn’t spend a lot of time discussing it. The name sounded good, was easy to spell, and short, so we decided to go with it,” Ravi Krishnamurthy, Rachin’s father, was quoted as saying by The Print.
“It was only some years later that we realised the name was a mix of Rahul and Sachin’s names. He wasn’t named with the intention to make our child a cricketer or anything of the sort,” he added.
Hailing from Wellington, the talented all-rounder broke Jonny Bairstow’s record for the most runs in a maiden World Cup edition. He also surpassed Tendulkar, achieving the feat for the most runs in an ODI World Cup before turning 25.
The job is not yet done. Rachin has given a semi-final seat to New Zealand and would aim to beat India so that the Black Caps become the first side to qualify for the summit clash of the tournament.
