[Saba Sports News] Prithvi Shaw’s return to international cricket might take an additional month, contingent on his ability to handle more intensive agility and acceleration exercises. Shaw, 24, sidelined since last August due to a knee ligament injury, is set to undergo a heightened training regime over the next three weeks. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources state this will test his knee’s capacity to withstand these increased demands. Additionally, Shaw must participate in a few matches before receiving approval for competitive cricket.
Shaw, currently in rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), has shown promise in batting and fielding drills. His comeback, however, hinges on the injured knee’s resilience to more demanding physical challenges.
While the Indian Premier League (IPL) might be a feasible timeline for Shaw’s return, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will evaluate his readiness for the Ranji Trophy knockouts. Mumbai, already with two outright victories, is currently competing in Kerala. Shaw, who last played internationally over two years ago, represents the Delhi Capitals in the IPL.
In related news, Shardul Thakur missed the Mumbai-Kerala Ranji match in Thiruvananthapuram, as the NCA didn’t clear him due to knee issues.
Mohammed Shami, inactive since the World Cup, may travel to London for expert consultation. Accompanied by NCA sports science head Nitin Patel, the duo was recently seen at the NCA in Bengaluru, where they reportedly decided to seek specialist advice in the UK. The exact departure date is unclear but expected soon.
This follows the BCCI’s decision to send Suryakumar Yadav to Germany for groin surgery, which was carried out on January 17. There are also unconfirmed reports that Rishabh Pant may be sent to London for consultation.
