[Saba Sports News] Newly appointed Sauber CEO and CTO Mattia Binotto revealed that young drivers Theo Pourchaire and Gabriel Bortoleto are candidates for Audi’s remaining seats. Audi will complete its acquisition of Sauber Racing early next year, but another driver has yet to be confirmed. Binotto is preparing Sauber for its transition to Audi in 2026 when new engine regulations will be implemented in F1. Currently, Nico Hulkenberg is the only confirmed Audi driver for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. In an interview with media outlets like RacingNews365, Binotto stated that a key decision Audi must make while searching for new drivers is assessing the type of driver that would work well alongside Hulkenberg. Theo is currently the team’s reserve driver; Gabriel has performed very well in F2 and has shown his talent. There are many names on the list, some with great potential, some with extensive knowledge, and some with rich experience. The team needs to determine whether short-term development or mid- to long-term development is more important. Some fans have expressed that if Audi chooses to sign an experienced driver, it should be Valtteri Bottas; if young drivers are preferred for a “long-term project,” then doors should be opened for Pourchaire and Bortoleto.
