[Saba Sports News] Sri Lankan cricket sensation Pathum Nissanka expressed disappointment with the team’s performance in the ICC World Cup 2023 match against Australia. Despite a strong start, Sri Lanka’s batting collapsed, and they were dismissed for just 209 runs in 43.3 overs.
Nissanka, who scored 61 off 67 balls with eight boundaries, expressed regret during the post-match press conference. He believed that considering the pitch conditions, Sri Lanka should have aimed for a much higher total, closer to 300 runs, and their failure to achieve this contributed to their defeat.
“Despite our promising start, we deeply regret not being able to sustain it, resulting in us being limited to a score of 210 runs. I’m hopeful that I can contribute significantly by scoring a substantial number of runs and playing substantial innings in the upcoming matches,” Nissanka stated.
Australia Secures First Victory in ODI World Cup 2023
Australia secured a crucial five-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in the ODI World Cup 2023. Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh played impressive innings, complementing Adam Zampa’s outstanding four-wicket performance. This win marked Australia’s first victory in the 2023 tournament after two consecutive losses to India and South Africa.
Adam Zampa led the way with a four-wicket haul (4/47), despite notable half-centuries by Kusal Perera (78) and Pathum Nissanka (61). Inglis and Marsh’s aggressive batting paved the way for Australia’s comfortable win, reaching the target with 88 balls to spare while boosting their net run rate.
