Sports News] According to reports from British media, Andre Onana is currently
in negotiations with the Cameroon Football Federation in an effort to postpone
his departure for the Africa Cup of Nations. It is stated that Cameroon have
scheduled a warm-up match in Saudi Arabia, with a friendly match against Zambia
set to take place on January 9. However, Onana wishes to be available for
Manchester United’s FA Cup third-round match against Wigan Athletic, which is
scheduled for January 8. Therefore, he hopes to delay his departure from Old
Trafford for as long as possible. Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign
will commence with a match against Guinea on January 15. The knockout rounds
are set to begin on January 27, with the final taking place on February 11.
Manchester United have several important fixtures during the period Onana would
potentially be absent. They are scheduled to face Tottenham Hotspur in the
Premier League on January 14, with possible FA Cup fourth-round matches on
January 27 and 28. Additionally, they have matches against Wolves on February
1, West Ham United on February 4, and Aston Villa on February 11. If Onana
participates in the Africa Cup of Nations, Manchester United’s head coach, Erik
ten Hag, will have to make arrangements for the second goalkeeper, Bayindir, to
take his place. It would be interesting to know the thoughts of Manchester United
fans regarding this situation.
