[Saba Sports News] India wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul provided an update on all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s injury, confirming that the latter is not available for the upcoming clash versus England.
Pandya suffered an ankle injury in the game versus Bangladesh. He went for treatment midway in his first over and did not return to the field.
Although there were reports earlier that Pandya will join the team in Lucknow after missing out on the New Zealand fixture, it is now being reported that he will require more time to get match fit.
Rahul confirmed the same, announcing that Pandya will not play against England.
“Hardik has been a very important member of the team and he has been
there and he does a very important role for the team. So not having him
is also a bit of a miss for the team. But it’s unfortunate what happened,” Rahul said as quoted to the media on Saturday.
In place of Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav is receiving the chance to feature in the XI. Rahul expressed his confidence on Suryakumar, stating that the team is well aware of his abilities.
“We also at some point have to look at the now and the present is that he
is not available for this game. Surya will probably get his chance and
we know what Surya can do. So, our confidence is in Surya till Hardik
comes back,” he added.
India are undefeated in the tournament so far after playing five matches. They have gained wins by chasing in all the games.
Rahul emphasised on this, mentioning that India would want to test themselves by batting first.
“It’ll be a great opportunity if we get to bat first before the next
stage. In the next four games if we can get to bat first it’ll be a good
challenge for us to just see how to pace the innings and it’s been some
time since we’ve batted first.”
Notably, India will face Bangladesh in the 29th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 29 at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
