[Saba Sports News] The upcoming Spain Masters in
Madrid has recently garnered attention due to the withdrawal of Malaysian
badminton player Ng Tze Yong. Yong cited an ongoing back injury as the reason
for his withdrawal. This development has sparked concerns among fans, as Yong
may not have accumulated enough points to secure his spot in the Paris
Olympics. Ng Tze Yong, 24 years old, sustained a back injury during the
Malaysian Open in January of this year. Although he made a return during the
Asian team competition in early February, he was advised against undergoing
surgery. In order to expedite his recovery, he opted to skip four consecutive
European competitions, including the French Open and the historic All England
Open. Initially, Yong had hoped to earn sufficient points at the Spain Masters
to enhance his chances of qualifying for the Paris Olympics. However, he now
finds himself relying heavily on the upcoming Asian Championships in Ningbo,
China, which will be a Super 1000 tournament offering more points. This
tournament will play a crucial role in determining Yong’s fate. The Asian
Championships serves as the final event for accumulating points for the 2024
Paris Olympics qualification. Despite his injury-induced absence, Yong must
strive for ample opportunities in the Asian Championships in order to have a
shot at securing a top 16 spot in the Paris Olympics ranking and representing
the national team.
