[Saba Sports News] In the 41st match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, New Zealand’s victory over Sri Lanka by five wickets at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has nearly secured their place in the semi-finals. Sri Lanka set a target of 172 after being dismissed for 171, which New Zealand comfortably chased down in 23.2 overs.
The Kiwi openers, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, kickstarted the pursuit with an 86-run stand, and despite a middle-order wobble, Daryl Mitchell’s quickfire 43 brought New Zealand within reach of victory. Glenn Phillips and Tom Latham then closed the innings, leading to New Zealand’s win.
Sri Lanka had a challenging start, losing early wickets to Tim Southee and Trent Boult. Kusal Perera’s half-century provided some resistance, but it wasn’t enough to avoid a collapse, with Sri Lanka at 128/9 before a last-wicket stand pushed them past 150.
Trent Boult led New Zealand’s bowling attack with three wickets, supported by Lockie Ferguson and Mitchell Santner, who both claimed two each. Angelo Mathews was the standout bowler for Sri Lanka with figures of 2/29.
