[Saba Sports News] One young NBA player has had quite the journey to the league.
New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III recently appeared on the “Check Ball Show,” where he shared a surprising detail about his past—he once worked at Chick-fil-A for about a month before making it to the NBA.
“I worked at Chick-fil-A for about a month,” Murphy revealed. “One time, I was giving a lady a drink, and she crushed it in my hand, spilling it on her shoe, and said, ‘You crushed my drink.’”
Murphy, who was 16 at the time, managed to stay calm but decided to quit shortly after, putting in his two weeks notice.
Now 24, Murphy’s rise to the NBA was far from typical. After starting his college career at Rice and then transferring to Virginia, he became known for his shooting and defense. Murphy was selected 17th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft and has since become a key player for the Pelicans, averaging career highs last season with 14.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.
Everyone starts somewhere, and Murphy’s brief stint at Chick-fil-A adds an interesting twist to his origin story, reminiscent of other NBA players with similar backgrounds.
