[Saba Sports News] “Ferrari,” the biographical film directed
by Michael Mann, was released in North America on December 25 last year.
Despite active promotion by the Ferrari F1 team, the film did not perform well
at the theatre. During its opening weekend, “Ferrari” only earned
$4.06 million, while the sports-themed movie “The Boys in the boat”,
also released on the same day, earned $8.31 million, more than double the
earnings of “Ferrari.” With a production cost of $95 million,
“Ferrari” ranked eighth at the theatre during its opening weekend,
and the post-screening audience rating was only at a B-level. This has led many
car enthusiasts to question whether the film will be able to recover its costs.
Some car fans have pointed out that the film’s distribution company, STX
Entertainment, has been facing operational challenges. The company has
undergone frequent adjustments to its shareholder structure in recent years and
even closed its distribution and marketing departments last year. This suggests
that the lack of marketing efforts may have contributed to the poor performance
of “Ferrari.” The film tells the legendary story of Ferrari and
Maserati competing for dominance on the racing track, showcasing the intense
and dangerous nature of motor sports. Racing enthusiasts may find many Easter
eggs in the movie.
