[Saba Sports News] McLaren F1 team principal Andrea Stella stated in an exclusive interview with BBC that the team will support Lando Norris in competing for this year’s drivers’ world championship while adhering to principles of fairness. In the remaining races, the team will lean towards supporting Norris, which has already been agreed upon by teammate Oscar Piastri; however, the team’s interests will always come first. Currently, Verstappen leads the F1 driver standings with 303 points, while Norris follows closely with 241 points, a gap of 62 points between them. In response, some fans noted that if Norris does not let Piastri have the championship before the finish line in Hungary and Piastri can give up second place to Norris in Italy, then the gap between Norris and Verstappen would only be 50 points. In my view, McLaren has realized the importance of taking action and has finally used team orders to have Piastri focus on the “big picture” and assist Norris in challenging for the drivers’ world championship.
