[Saba Sports News] The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly showing interest in acquiring Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins. This was discussed on the “HoopsHype” podcast by Warriors reporter Anthony Slater of The Athletic and host Michael Scotto, where they explored potential trade scenarios for Wiggins.
According to Scotto, the Mavericks have long been admirers of Wiggins and are currently seeking to strengthen their small forward position. Slater confirmed Dallas as a likely destination, mentioning that rumors about their interest have been circulating.
Slater also mentioned that other teams might view Wiggins as an opportunity to buy low, especially if the Warriors are keen to move him. Wiggins is in the first year of a four-year contract extension worth $109 million, extending through the 2026-27 season.
The Mavericks’ interest in Wiggins isn’t new; they were connected to him earlier in the month and seem to maintain their interest. Wiggins, who made the All-Star team in the 2021-22 season, has experienced a notable decline this season. The 28-year-old’s averages of 12.0 points and 1.5 assists per game on 42.7% field goal shooting and 29.5% from three are the lowest of his career.
Reports have also surfaced about the Warriors’ dissatisfaction with Wiggins’ conditioning. His performance has suffered since dealing with a personal issue last season, and he has struggled to regain his form. This downturn in performance has led to speculation that Wiggins might be on the trade block.
