[Saba Sports News] Mark Cuban, now valued at over $7.6 billion, has dropped hints about his next moves. With his reduced role in the Dallas Mavericks and his upcoming departure from *Shark Tank* after this season, Cuban is exploring new ventures. In a recent interview with *Wired*, he shared an interest in buying X (formerly Twitter) and Fox News, if the opportunity presented itself.
At 66, Cuban appears to be at a turning point. Last year, he announced that the upcoming *Shark Tank* season would be his last, signaling the end of an era for the show that significantly boosted his public presence. He has also sold his controlling stake in the Mavericks, raising questions about whether he’s winding down his business activities.
During an interview with *Wired’s* Lauren Goode, Cuban expressed interest in purchasing both X and Fox News, igniting speculation about his next ventures. On Fox News, Cuban said, “If I had enough money to do it, which I don’t, I’d buy it in a heartbeat.”
He elaborated that buying Fox News might be a way to address what he calls the “Fox News generation,” a term he’s used before when critiquing the baby boomer generation. However, he admitted that acquiring the network would be a massive financial challenge, estimating a price tag between $15 billion and $20 billion, which he doesn’t have available in cash.
Cuban also mentioned the unlikelihood of purchasing X, as he believes Elon Musk has no plans to sell. “I wish I could,” he commented. Cuban, an active user of X, has publicly criticized Musk, accusing him of manipulating the platform’s algorithm, which has led to heated exchanges between the two.
Despite these ambitious media interests, Cuban’s passion for entrepreneurship is alive. In 2018, he was drawn to a pitch from Alex Oshmyansky, a radiologist with an idea for a pharmaceutical startup to sell generic drugs at near-cost prices.
Cuban quickly invested $250,000 and later took full ownership. In 2022, the company launched as Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs, which offers a transparent pricing model and now ships 2,500 types of medication, including those for epilepsy, diabetes, and birth control, across the U.S.
Fox and X have not responded to requests for comment.
