[Saba Sports News] Fluminense officially announced that the Laranjeiras Stadium will be renamed Marcelo Stadium in honor of Marcelo Vieira’s contributions. The Laranjeiras Stadium is one of the oldest stadiums in Brazil, built in 1905, and was expanded to accommodate 25,000 people. The stadium is currently owned by Fluminense Club. Fluminense’s current home ground is the famous Maracana Stadium, which can now hold 73,000 people. Marcelo joined Fluminense at the age of 15. Due to financial difficulties, he once considered quitting football, but Fluminense recognized his football potential and signed him in October 2006. At just 17 years old, Marcelo made his debut for Fluminense in the Brazilian Serie A. In 2007, he transferred to Real Madrid for €6.5 million. In 2022, Olympiacos signed Marcelo on a free transfer, and in February 2023, Fluminense re-signed him, bringing him back to where it all began. During his two stints at Fluminense, Marcelo played 93 matches, contributing 9 goals and 3 assists.
