[Saba Sports News] The 2024 Asian Team
Championship is scheduled to take place from February 13-18 at the Setia City
Convention Center in Shah Alam, Malaysia. The Badminton Association of Malaysia
(BAM) recently held a launch ceremony for the championship and set a clear goal
of reaching at least the semi-finals. The top four teams from the Asian Team
Championship will automatically qualify for the Thomas and Uber Cup finals,
which will be held in late April of the same year. The BAM stated that the
coaching team, led by Rexy Mainaky, the coaching director of the Malaysian Badminton
Academy (ABM), will determine the entry list for the Asian Team Championship.
The final list of selected players will be announced on January 26. The only
player currently confirmed to be selected is men’s singles player LEE Zii Jia,
who is the reigning men’s singles champion of the 2022 Badminton Asian
Championships. Currently ranked 10th in the men’s singles world rankings, LEE
Zii Jia is seen as Malaysia’s hopeful for a gold medal at the Paris Olympics.
Fifteen teams, including defending champions Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Japan,
India, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Myanmar, Brunei,
United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Kazakhstan, will participate in the
2024 Asian Team Championship.
