[Saba Sports News] Seattle basketball fans have a reason to be excited.
ESPN reported Tuesday on NBA expansion efforts, revealing a key detail about the possible return of the Seattle SuperSonics.
Should the SuperSonics come back, the Oklahoma City Thunder plan to give back Seattle’s history, which they currently own since the franchise moved to OKC in 2008.
While the NBA officially ties the two teams’ histories, including the 1979 championship, a new Seattle franchise would reclaim its legacy. This mirrors what happened when the Charlotte Hornets reclaimed their history from the New Orleans Pelicans.
The NBA is reportedly eyeing expansion by the 2027-28 season, with Seattle and possibly Las Vegas as frontrunners.
