[Saba Sports News] A retirement ceremony was held for two-time Olympic badminton men’s doubles gold medalist Li Yang at the finals of the Chinese Taipei Badminton Open. The video showed a retrospective film of Li Yang’s significant moments in his career, which elicited prolonged applause from the audience, causing Li Yang to become emotional and shed tears. Originally planning to retire after the Paris Olympics, Li Yang decided to postpone his retirement plans as he and his partner Wang Chi-Lin qualified for the BWF World Tour Finals at the end of the year. However, apart from the World Tour Finals, Li Yang has decided not to participate in any other international events. Having just celebrated his 29th birthday last month, Li Yang is known for his delicate net play, outstanding defensive skills, and distribution ability, and has been described by the media as an “underrated badminton doubles genius.” Regarding his post-retirement career plans, Li Yang revealed that he intends to return to a sports university to teach, hopes to arrange a cycling trip around Taiwan, and wants to watch NBA games in the United States.
