[Saba Sports News] A former Los Angeles Lakers champion has come up with an unconventional solution as the team faces ongoing challenges. Following another loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, leaving them with a 17-19 season record, retired Lakers forward Lamar Odom shared a peculiar idea on his social media.
Odom suggested, “RUN THE TRIANGLE!!!!” referring to the triangle offense strategy famously used by Phil Jackson with the Chicago Bulls and the Lakers, particularly in the 1990s and 2000s. This strategy contributed to Jackson’s 11 championship wins, including two with Odom on the Lakers in 2009 and 2010.
However, the relevance of the triangle offense in today’s NBA, which has moved away from inside-out play and post-ups, is questionable. Recent efforts to implement it have largely failed, and it’s unlikely to suit a player like LeBron James, who thrives on mismatches and driving plays rather than being a one-touch passer or midrange shooter.
While NBA teams sometimes use triangle-influenced plays, adapting it to the current Lakers team, especially considering LeBron James’ playing style and the team’s rotation issues, might not be the most effective solution.
