[Saba Sports News] In the men’s football final at the Paris Olympics, France was defeated 5-3 by Spain in extra time, missing out on the gold medal. After the match, French forward Alexandre Lacazette announced his retirement from the French national team. Lacazette stated: “This is still my best silver medal. Throughout my career, I’ve lost a few finals… let’s say this was the least bad one. I’ll remember this experience. Wearing the French jersey, the feelings for the team, and the memories—these will last a lifetime. Emotionally, this was one of the most remarkable matches of my career, and it will be my last wearing the French national team jersey. As a competitor, I’m disappointed. We aimed for the gold from the start. We’ve won a medal for the French team and ignited passion on the field.” In this Olympics, Lacazette, selected as an overage player, captained the French team, playing in five matches, scoring one goal, and providing one assist. Since his debut in 2013, Lacazette has played 16 matches for the French national team, scoring three goals.
