[Saba Sports News] On January 11, 2024, at Kingsmead, a highly anticipated SA20 clash will feature T20 icons Nicholas Pooran of Durban’s Super Giants and Kieron Pollard, captain of MI Cape Town. Pooran, having excelled in global T20 leagues over the past year, aims to dazzle at Kingsmead, downplaying his status while focusing on consistent performance and team contribution.
“I’m not a superstar. I enjoy T20s for their fan appeal and want to maintain my form, helping my team,” Pooran stated, appreciating Durban’s similar climate to his homeland. He also mentioned the welcoming nature of the team, especially guidance from former DSG captain Quinton de Kock.
Pollard, taking over MI Cape Town’s captaincy, is eager to improve upon their performance from the last SA20 season, aiming to give fans a reason to celebrate.
Pooran is keen on keeping DSG’s winning streak at home against MI Cape Town, leveraging new strategies and planning. “It’s about executing on the day. Our team is ready for the challenge,” he added.
MI Cape Town has incorporated local insights from Grant Roelofsen, a Kingsmead regular, into their strategy. Roelofsen expressed excitement to play for MI Cape Town at his home ground.
With a reshuffled MI Cape Town lineup due to injuries, including Pollard as the new captain and Nuwan Thushara replacing Jofra Archer, both teams are prepared with strong squads for the upcoming match.
