[Saba Sports News] Minnesota Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett is excited about his former team’s future but issued a warning regarding Anthony Edwards’ upcoming summer.
On the “All The Smoke” podcast, Garnett praised the Timberwolves’ run to the Western Conference Finals but emphasized the importance of allowing Edwards a summer of rest.
Edwards is on the Team USA roster for the Summer Olympics in Paris, which concerns Garnett.
Garnett urged Minnesota’s ownership to ensure Olympic coaches manage Edwards’ playing time carefully, referencing his own experience in the 2000 Olympics where he played extensive minutes. Garnett recalled Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders having to intervene with Team USA to manage his workload.
Although Edwards will be on a star-studded team with LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and Joel Embiid, Garnett fears Edwards might still play many unimportant minutes. Despite not being the main attraction, Edwards was a standout at the FIBA World Cup, earning praise from Team USA coach Steve Kerr.
Edwards played in 79 regular-season games and 16 playoff games, the heaviest workload of his career. Garnett’s concerns about the young star not getting a summer off may be well-founded.
