[Saba Sports News] Josh Inglis discussed his conversation with Australian team selectors before being included in the ICC Cricket World Cup match against South Africa. Inglis simply responded with a “yes” when George Bailey asked if he wanted to play but didn’t anticipate being in the playing XI.
Inglis played a pivotal role in Australia’s victory against Sri Lanka, scoring 58 off 59 balls with five boundaries and one six. He also shared a crucial 77-run partnership with Marnus Labuschagne during the chase of 210 runs.
Regarding his chat with George Bailey, Inglis said, “I think I was at brekky and Bails (George Bailey) said, ‘Do you want to play a game of cricket tomorrow?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, I do.’ I didn’t really see it coming. So that was nice. I’m just really, really pumped to be getting a game at the minute. I can’t take that for granted. Professional cricket is tough and international cricket is even harder. So that doesn’t mean I’ve cracked it now. Still got to put performances on the board because Kez (Carey) is a very good player.”
Inglis also reflected on Australia’s tour to South Africa before the World Cup, noting the challenges of limited game time while traveling with the squad. He mentioned feeling rusty during that period but is now pleased to be getting more opportunities to play and is looking to build on his performances.
