[Saba Sports News] Joel Embiid reportedly had an altercation with a reporter on Saturday after the Philadelphia 76ers’ 124-107 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies at Wells Fargo Center.
Embiid was said to be upset over a column referencing his late brother, Arthur Embiid. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Embiid “shoved” the reporter, though no punches were thrown.
Arthur Embiid passed away in a car accident in 2014, the same year Joel was drafted 3rd overall by Philadelphia.
The reporter involved is believed to be Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Inquirer, who previously faced criticism for mentioning both Embiid’s son and late brother while critiquing his conditioning.
The NBA has issued a statement regarding the incident: “We are aware of reports of an incident in the Sixers locker room this evening and are commencing an investigation,” said an NBA spokesperson.
Embiid has not played this season due to a knee injury. The league previously fined the 76ers heavily after investigating Embiid’s unclear injury status.
