[Saba Sports News] England put on a great show while in their second World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh on Tuesday at Dharamshala’s HPCA Stadium, winning by 137 runs.
Dawid Malan, Joe Root, and Jonny Bairstow helped England post a total of 364 runs while batting first.
Malan reached his sixth ODI ton, while Root missed a well-deserved century by just 18 runs. He got dismissed at a score of 82. His 68-ball innings included eight fours and a six.
Despite not scoring a hundred, he broke a record, which up until today was held by former England captain Graham Gooch. Root surpassed Gooch on the list of most runs scored in the ODI World Cups for England.
Overall, Root, who is playing in his third ICC ODI World Cup, has participated in 19 matches across the editions so far. He has scored 917 runs with an impressive average of 57.31, including three centuries and five fifties.
Gooch had scored as many as 897 runs in the World Cups for England. Ian Bell and Allan Lamb follows him on the list, having scored 656 and 635 runs respectively in the ODI World Cups.
