[Saba Sports News] Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla waxed philosophical on Friday when asked about Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving. One of the biggest storylines of the 2024 NBA Finals is Irving’s playoff return to Boston.
The 8-time All-Star had an unceremonious exit from the Celtics after a disappointing two-year stint from 2017 to 2019, going from potential Celtics torchbearer to Beantown public enemy. Mazzulla spoke to the media on Friday after practice and was asked about Irving being perceived as “a villain” by Celtics fans.
“Aren’t we all in someone’s eyes? We’re all villains in someone’s eyes,” Mazzulla responded before the reporter could finish the question.
Irving has expressed his frustration with Celtics fans over the years, calling them cockroaches and even flipping them off during games. However, when asked about his return to Boston for a chance at his second ring, Irving downplayed his past beef with the franchise.
